About our Church
About our Church
We believe that the message about Jesus (the Gospel) is the central news and act of God for all people.
Peter Novak
PastorHis message says that through Jesus’s substitutionary death, God forgives all our failures. It is only through faith—that is trusting in Jesus as our leader and representative without any religious or other works—that we are accepted by God.
That’s why we are focused on the Gospel and call ourselves evangelical Christians.
The purpose of the church is to bring together Christians and others to know God and His will for the world through His Word.
The goal of the church is to give all glory to God by participating with Him in the building up of Christ’s Church.
Our misssion
Proclaiming Christ
We proclaim Christ to both Christians and non-Christians through regular study, reading, and sharing of the Scriptures—either directly from the Bible or indirectly through singing, prayer, personal encouragement, and more. The Word of Christ creates fellowship with God and among people (1 John 1:3; Colossians 1:27–29; 3:16; Ephesians 4:7–16).
Strengthening Community
Everything we do as a church is aimed at building up community with God and with one another. This doesn’t mean everyone must be present at every event, but that all we do is done to strengthen and grow the fellowship we share in Christ. Corporate activities (such as Sunday gatherings and midweek Bible studies) are, of course, central to our church. But community means more than just being in the same place at the same time. Every meeting is an opportunity to grow together in knowing God through the Word of Christ (Hebrews 3:12–13; 10:25; Ephesians 4:2–3; Jude 21–23).
Pursuing Righteousness
Sin belongs to the old life that was crucified with Christ. This does not mean we no longer sin, but rather that we strive to live godly lives—truly knowing God and living in a way that pleases Him (1 Timothy 2:1–4; 3:16; 4:7–8; 1 Peter 2:12; 2 Peter 3:13; Romans 12:1–2; Titus 2:11–15).
Cultivating Peace
This means building good, positive relationships with one another. Because sin still lingers, this necessarily includes healthy ways of resolving conflict. We actively seek to enrich one another’s lives (Mark 9:50; Romans 12:9–10; 14:17–20; Colossians 3:12–14; Philippians 2:1–5).
Focusing on God
We do not act based on what the world, our friends, or tradition expect of us, but on what God desires. No one in the church is an untouchable “little god”; we all share the responsibility to radically and completely submit to God (Romans 12:1–3; Mark 7:1–13).
Our story
The beginnings of REC date back to 2002, when a group of Christians, led by Australian missionary David Shead, started meeting in a private home. In 2004, the group was officially registered with the Slovenian government as a religious community under the name Reformed Evangelical Church. In 2006, Peter Novak took over the role of pastor.
The name of our community means that we are a Christian church of the Lord Jesus, focused on the Gospel, and committed to continually reforming ourselves according to God’s Word, the Holy Scriptures. You are invited to join our meetings and see for yourself.
My life’s direction changed during my student years when, through reading the Bible, I realized that God accepts us into heaven not because of our own merits but only by grace, solely due to Jesus’ merits. This surprising message of Scripture led me to decide to dedicate most of my life to studying, teaching, and living according to the Bible. I am married to Lidija, and we have three children: Erik, Karis, and Lara.
Regular activities for children, youth and adults
Our church organizes two major social events every year During the holidays. Our children and teenagers spend a few days camping at several camps by the River, and at the end of August we hold a family gathering in Prekmurje.
Our cooperation
We cooperate with various churches and organizations across Slovenia and abroad. We organize meetings, visit each other, and collaborate on different projects.
Among the collaborators, we should especially mention the ZVEŠ – Student Ministry, the Bible Society of Slovenia, and the Trubar Forum:
